The Higher Education Loans and Scholarships Board (HELSB) has awarded student loans to 3,537 first-year students at Copperbelt University for the 2024/2025 academic year. The number of applicants considered per province was based on the ratio of eligible applicants from each province to the total number of eligible applications. Minimal adjustments were made to ensure that regions with lower allocations received a fair share. Consideration was also given to achieving a balanced distribution of awards across various schools.
HELSB received 10,623 applications for sponsorship at Copperbelt University, with 9,926 applicants meeting the eligibility criteria, representing 93%. The remaining 697 applicants, or 7%, did not meet the set criteria. Among the total applications, 4,308 were from rural districts and 6,315 from urban districts, accounting for 41% and 59%, respectively. Of the 9,926 eligible applicants, 4,005 were from rural districts and 5,921 from urban districts, representing 40% and 60%, respectively.
Additionally, HELSB received 15 applications from students living with disabilities. Two of these students had already been awarded loans at other universities, and the remaining 13 have been granted student loans.
