The Higher Education Loans and Scholarships Board (HELSB) announces the completion of the student loan award process for first-year students at Kapasa Makasa University (KMU) for the 2025/2026 Academic Year. A total of 325 first-year students have been successfully awarded student loans, reaffirming HELSB’s commitment to supporting access to science- and technology-driven higher education.

HELSB received 398 loan applications from KMU. All applications were assessed in accordance with established eligibility guidelines, and awards were made exclusively to applicants who met all requirements. Some applications were unsuccessful due to failure to meet academic eligibility thresholds, incomplete or inaccurate documentation, and age and year-of-completion limitations.

100 percent of the awarded loans were for students enrolled in STEM programmes, in line with KMU’s institutional mandate. A significant proportion of beneficiaries are from rural backgrounds, and students with disabilities were included among the successful applicants. HELSB remains dedicated to promoting equitable access to higher education, particularly in strategic fields critical to national development.

Editor’s Note: HELSB advertised student loans for school leavers who completed Grade 12 in 2021, 2022, 2023, and 2024, and who held valid acceptance letters from KMU for the 2025/2026 Academic Year.
