Issued by: Izukanji Namonje, Acting Corporate Affairs Manager, for and on behalf of the Higher Education Loans and Scholarships Board (HELSB).
Date: 23rd December 2025.
The Higher Education Loans and Scholarships Board (HELSB) is pleased to announce the successful conclusion of the student loan award process for first-year students at the Zambia University College of Technology (ZUT) for the 2025/2026 Academic Year.
Following the assessment process, a total of 581 first-year students have been awarded student loans to support their tertiary education.
HELSB received 864 loan applications from Zambia University College of Technology. Each application was carefully scrutinized in line with the Board’s established eligibility criteria to ensure a fair, transparent, and accountable selection process.
Some applications were unsuccessful mainly due to prior loan awards at other institutions, ineligibility based on age or Grade 12 completion year, submission of incomplete or incorrect documentation, non–first-year student status, and academic points exceeding the eligibility threshold.
In terms of programme distribution, 72 percent of the awarded loans were for students enrolled in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) programmes, while 28 percent were awarded to students in arts-based programmes. Male applicants formed the majority of successful beneficiaries, accounting for 66 percent of the total awards.
With regard to equity and inclusion, most beneficiaries are from rural areas, and students with disabilities were also included among the successful applicants. HELSB underscores that the entire process was conducted with integrity, transparency, and accountability.
