The Higher Education Loans and Scholarships Board (HELSB) has awarded student loans to 492 first-year students at Chalimbana University for the 2025/2026 academic year.
A total of 1,687 applications were received. Following the screening process:
- 1,469 applicants (87%) were eligible.
- 218 applicants (13%) were ineligible.
Of the successful applicants:
- 833 are male (57%)
- 636 are female (43%)
In terms of geographical distribution:
- 1,203 eligible applicants (82%) are from rural areas.
- 266 eligible applicants (18%) are from urban areas.
HELSB also received five (5) applications from students with disabilities, all of whom were successfully awarded student loans.
Reasons for Ineligibility included:
- Completion of Grade 12 before 2020.
- Incomplete or incorrect documentation.
- Exceeding the age limit of 26 years.
Editor’s Note: HELSB advertised student loans for school leavers who completed Grade 12 in 2021, 2022, 2023, or 2024, and who hold acceptance letters from Chalimbana University for the 2025/2026 academic year.
Currently, HELSB is supporting a total of 1,182 students at Chalimbana University.
