The Higher Education Loans and Scholarships Board (HELSB) has awarded additional student loans to 431 first-year students at Copperbelt University for the 2025/2026 academic year.
HELSB received 5,143 appeals for student loans consideration at Copperbelt University from applicants who were not awarded during the initial awards in October.
Of the appeals received, 3,375 of the applications are from science-based programme, while 1,768 are art based programmes representing 66% and 34% respectively.
This year HELSB received 11,329 applications for consideration out of which 4,683 were awarded student loans. The additional awards bring the total number of students awarded student loans to 5,114 for the 2025/2026 academic year.

HELSB advertised student loans for school leavers who completed Grade 12 in 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024, and who hold acceptance letters from Copperbelt University for the 2025/2026 academic year.
Currently, HELSB is supporting 13,441 students at Copperbelt University.
