THE UNIVERSITY OF ZAMBIA ADDITIONAL PROVISIONAL AWARDS F0R 2024/2025 ACADEMIC YEAR

The Higher Education Loans and Scholarships Board (HELSB)

The Higher Education Loans and Scholarships Board (HELSB) has awarded additional student loans to 466 eligible students at the University of Zambia and Kapasa Makasa University. These awards were approved by the Loans Committee during its meeting held on February 19, 2025.

Breakdown of Awards

University of Zambia:

  • 169 first-year students who appealed for consideration after not being included in the initial 2024/2025 academic year awards.
  • 247 post-first year students who applied for sponsorship after initially being self-funded.
  • 25 students upgraded from partial funding (50% and 75%) to full funding (100%).

These additional awards bring the total number of students receiving student loans at the University of Zambia to 5,235 for the 2024/2025 academic year.

Kapasa Makasa University:

  • 25 additional students have been awarded loans following their appeals for the 2024/2025 academic year.

With these additional awards, the total number of students supported at Kapasa Makasa University now stands at 430 for the 2025 academic year.

These additional student loans have been made possible through internal savings and resource mobilization. HELSB remains committed to promoting equitable access to higher education through a fair and transparent selection process. The Board will continue to explore sustainable funding strategies to support more students in future academic years.
